  3. Step 3: Interest Payment

Why Interest Payment Matters

Tip

Always check APR vs APY and the payout schedule. Reinvesting Interest Payment more often raises your effective yield over time.

Key Characteristics of Interest Payment

Here is what stands out when you look under the hood:

  • Timing: Paid per block, daily, weekly, or on withdrawal, depending on the platform.
  • Rate: Fixed or variable, often moving with borrower demand and liquidity.
  • Denomination: Usually paid in the asset you supplied, sometimes in a reward token.
  • Source: Comes from borrower fees or protocol incentives, not magic.
  • Label: Staking yield is different from Interest Payment, see Staking Rewards for how that works.

How is Interest Payment calculated?

Two common ways show up: simple interest and compound interest. Platforms often display APR or APY to keep it understandable.

Simple interest example:

Interest Payment = Principal × Rate × Time

Compound interest idea:

APY factor = (1 + r ÷ n) ^ (n × t)

APY equals the APY factor, then subtract one. Where r is the annual rate, n is compounding periods per year, and t is time in years.

Variations

Different products, different vibes. You will see these flavors a lot:

  • Fixed: The rate stays the same for a set term.
  • Variable: The rate floats with market demand.
  • Simple: Interest accrues on the original principal only.
  • Compound: Interest earns interest when it is reinvested.
  • APR: Annual rate without compounding in the quote.
  • APY: Annual rate with compounding included.

Reminder

Interest Payment can be high, but smart money checks smart contract risk, platform solvency, and the asset price. A juicy rate on a token that drops hard is not a win.

Example

You deposit 2,000 USDC into a lending pool at 4 percent APR, the Interest Payment accrues daily, and after six months you have about 40 USDC before any compounding tricks.

Fun Fact

Some crypto platforms stream Interest Payment every block, which means your balance can tick up every few seconds like a tiny digital drip. Rolex meets Reddit threads.

Wrap-Up

Short version: Interest Payment is you getting paid for time, risk, and patience while your coins do the work.
