Axie Infinity

Axie Infinity was developed by Sky Mavis and-founded by Catherine Sison-Pariño. A significant event in its history was the integration of the Ronin sidechain in 2021, which addressed previous scaling issues. Axie Infinity raised funds through multiple rounds including, in Oct 2020, they raised $2.9 million in an IEO at $0.1, in May 2021, they raised $7.5 million in a Series A round, and in October 2021, they secured $152 million, followed by a Series C round in Apr 2022 where they raised another $152 million totaling more than $300 million.

Axie Infinity uses a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism through its Ronin sidechain which makes it possible for efficient transaction processing. The Ethereum network's average block time is approximately 15 seconds, but Ronin significantly decreases transaction times specific to Axie-related activities. Axie Infinity allows players to earn AXS and Smooth Love Potion (SLP) tokens through gameplay and in-game activities, thereby creating a play-to-earn model. The game features collectible creatures called Axies, which can be bred, battled, and traded by players.
