Polkadot

Polkadot was created by Gavin Wood, who is one of the co-founders of Ethereum and one of the key figures behind the development of the Solidity programming language. The project has had several funding rounds including A private round at $1.2 for $60 million, A private round 2 at $1.25 for $42 million, A Pre Sale at $0.289 for $79 million, an ICO at $0.29 for $144 million, a private token sale at $140 million, a strategic at $43 million and a range of undisclosed rounds, raising more than $500 million in total. The project launched its mainnet back in 2020.

Polkadot uses a Nominated Proof-of-Stake (NPoS) consensus mechanism to ensure network integrity while enabling scalability and security. By allowing various parachains to operate in parallel, Polkadot achieves significant throughput capabilities. The network's targeted block time is approximately 6 seconds, fostering quick transaction validation and execution. Polkadot's innovative design includes a central relay chain that coordinates the network while parachains optimize for various applications and use cases, providing both flexibility and scalability.
