Tether (USDT) is a type of cryptocurrency known as a stablecoin, these types of cryptocurrencies are designed to maintain a stable value to another fiat, crypto or asset, they do this by pegging the crypto to a reserve of assets, most commonly the US dollar. Tether allows users to transact on blockchain networks while enjoying the stability of a fiat currency. Tether was launched back in 2014 by a team that includes Brock Pierce, Reeve Collins, and Craig Sellars. Tether has become one of the most widely used stablecoins in the cryptocurrency market, it facilitates trading, lending, and transfers while minimizing the volatility associated with other cryptocurrencies.

Tether operates by issuing USDT tokens to native blockchain networks that they fully back by reserves held in traditional fiat currencies, they do this to maintain a 1:1 peg.
