BitKey

BitKey is non-custodial and uses a 2-of-3 multisignature security model where private keys are distributed between the hardware device, mobile app, and server. BitKey employs hardware-based security, biometric authentication, and PIN verification to safeguard transactions and recovery operations. BitKey has not experienced any known hacks, exploits, or scandals.

BitKey was created by Block, Inc., developed by the company’s internal Bitcoin-focused team known as Proto. The parent company was founded by Jack Dorsey and Jim McKelvey.

BitKey is a 2-of-3 key system where two of three keys hardware, mobile, and server are required to authorize a bitcoin transaction. The device connects to the Bitkey Mobile App via NFC or USB-C for setup and transaction confirmation. BitKey features a fingerprint sensor and supports recovery through trusted contacts and emergency backup kits, removing the need for traditional recovery phrases.
