Dogecoin

Dogecoin (DOGE) was created on December 6, 2013, by software engineers Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer. Initially launched as a parody of the booming cryptocurrency market, it was inspired by the popular "Doge" meme featuring a Shiba Inu dog.

Despite its humorous beginnings, Dogecoin quickly developed a passionate community and became the first-ever memecoin. Its popularity saw a massive surge in 2021, driven in part by viral internet culture and public support from figures like Elon Musk on social media.

Dogecoin runs on a proof-of-work consensus model just like Bitcoin does. Users can mine new DOGE by using their computing power to solve cryptographic hashes. The network processes transactions 10 times faster than Bitcoin at about 70 transactions per second. Dogecoin’s inflationary supply model means that new coins are continually generated without any upper limit.

Dogecoin has several use cases within the cryptocurrency ecosystem:
