Aptos

Aptos was founded in 2021 by Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching, both of whom were part of the original Diem (Libra) blockchain team at Meta. After Meta discontinued the Diem project, the Aptos team built on the technological foundation laid by Diem, launching the Aptos mainnet October 12 2022. Aptos received significant backing from prominent investors, including a16z, Multicoin Capital, and Binance Labs, and raised hundreds of millions in funding prior to launch. APT serves as the native token for network fees, staking, and governance.

Aptos uses a parallel execution engine called Block-STM, which makes it possible to process multiple transactions simultaneously. Aptos uses the "Move" language as its smart contract language, which supports resource-oriented programming. Aptos achieves high throughput with benchmarks exceeding 100,000 transactions per second in test environments. APT is used for paying gas fees, participating in on-chain governance, and securing the network through a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism.
