Terra Classic

Terra Classic was co-founded by Do Kwon and Daniel Shin back in 2018. Do Kwon, with a background in computer science, and Daniel Shin, sought to create a decentralized stablecoin ecosystem. In May 2022, the Terra protocol suffered a significant event when its stablecoin UST (Now USTC) and the LUNA token (now LUNC) collapsed, causing a major downturn in its market cap.

Terra Classic uses a Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) consensus mechanism, allowing for efficient transaction validation through a system of validators who secure the network. Historically, Terra Classic was known for faster block times, with blocks being processed approximately every 6 seconds. The network originally aimed to provide a stable and efficient payment system by dynamically balancing its native stablecoin supply through arbitrage incentives and trading mechanisms. The failure of its stablecoin has shifted the community's focus primarily on rebuilding and exploring new use cases for the Terra Classic chain.
