Internet Computer was founded by the DFINITY Foundation, led by Dominic Williams, a notable figure with extensive experience in distributed systems, cryptography, and blockchain technology. In 2018, the project raised over $160 million through 2 private fundraising rounds. A significant milestone for Internet Computer was its public launch in May 2021, marking the transition to a publicly accessible network that makes it possible for developers to build secure and scalable applications entirely on-chain.

Internet Computer uses a pioneering Chain Key Technology consensus mechanism that makes it possible for the network to finalize transactions quick while ensuring scalability and security. The project can process thousands of transactions per second, with block times reduced to 1-2 seconds. Internet Computer’s architecture integrates a system of decentralized data centers that run nodes on autonomous systems, creating a resilient and distributed network environment.
