Kadena

Kadena was founded by Stuart Popejoy and William Martino. Kadena was developed to overcome the technical limitations of current blockchain platforms and to provide a scalable and secure public blockchain. The project launched its mainnet in January 2020.

Kadena uses a unique Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus mechanism called Chainweb which is a parallel chain proof-of-work system designed to enhance scalability by allowing multiple non-competing chains to operate concurrently. Kadena can theoretically handle up to 480,000 transactions per second across its connected chains. The block time for Kadena varies as it uses multiple chains, each operating independently yet concurrently. Kadena’s ecosystem includes the "Pact" smart contract language, designed to be human-readable and verifiable for increased security and ease of use. This hybrid blockchain approach makes it possible for Kadena to offer both private and public chain options, catering to businesses and individual developers seeking decentralized applications.
