LSK was founded by Max Kordek and Oliver Beddows. LSK was introduced to the public in 2016 and raised funds through an initial coin offering (ICO) where it raised $5.8 million at a price of 0.0002 BTC per LSK. LSK has undergone various updates to improve the platform’s competitive ability, scalability, and developer experience, including major releases that have refined its SDK for building dApps and, transitioning from its original Layer 1 blockchain to an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum network, a strategic move completed by May, 2024.

As an ERC-20 token, LSK now operates within the Ethereum ecosystem, the platform continues to focus on usability by providing developers with the Software Development Kit (SDK) to create dApps in JavaScript. The integration into Ethereum makes it possible for LSK to use the infrastructure and resources available within the Ethereum network.
