Qtum

Qtum was founded by Patrick Dai, and Jordan Earls. The purpose of developing Qtum was to create a hybrid blockchain that could bring together the robust nature of Bitcoin's UTXO model with the flexibility of Ethereum's smart contract functionality. Qtum's mainnet was launched in September 2017.

Qtum uses a Mutualized Proof of Stake (MPoS) consensus mechanism. The blockchain can handle up to 1100 transactions per second, with a block time of around 128 seconds. One of Qtum's compelling features is the Account Abstraction Layer, which allows it to be compatible with both Ethereum's smart contract model and Bitcoin's UTXO transaction model. This dual-layer architecture makes interoperability possible and extends smart contract functionalities.
