USDC was created by the CENTRE consortium, which was established by Circle and Coinbase to provide a standardized and regulated USD pegged digital currency. Since it was launched USDC has both grown and gained a lot of attention while achieving a broad adoption across various exchanges and platforms, becoming one of the leading stablecoins in the cryptocurrency ecosystem.

USDC is a so called as a fiat-backed stablecoin, meaning that every minted USDC token is fully backed by a corresponding US Dollar held in reserve. The reserve behind USDC is regularly audited. this is done to maintain trust and transparency in the USDC peg.
