Algorand

Algorand was founded by Silvio Micali, a renowned computer scientist and Turing Award winner, who has a strong background in cryptography. The project was developed to create a truly decentralized and scalable blockchain solution that could overcome the limitations suffered by earlier blockchains. A major historical event for Algorand was its mainnet launch in June 2019, quickly gaining attention for its technical approach and fast transaction capabilities. Algorand raised funds through an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) in 2019 where it raised $60 million with an ICO price of $2.40 per ALGO.

Algorand uses a unique consensus mechanism called Pure Proof-of-Stake (PPoS). This approach selects validators randomly, proportionate to their stake in the network, enhancing security and decentralization while maintaining low energy consumption. The Algorand blockchain is capable of processing over 1,000 transactions per second, with a block time of about 4.5 seconds. The platform also has functionality that makes it possible for atomic transfers and customizable token issuance.
