Compound

Compound was co-founded by Geoffrey Hayes and Robert Leshner back in 2017, with Leshner having experience in sectors like crypto, fintech and investments, and Mr Hayes having a strong background knowledge and experience in software engineering. Compound has had 2 funding rounds in its early stage: A Seed round at $8.2 million in 2018 and a Series A round at $25 million in 2019, successfully raising more than $33 million in total.

Compound works by using a system/combination of several different smart contracts that interact with each other on the Ethereum blockchain, they make it possible for users to deposit their cryptocurrency into different liquidity pools, and by doing so, receive cTokens in return, the cTokens represent a stake in the total pool and accrue interest to the user over time as a type of passive income. The protocol's algorithm is developed/designed in such a way that makes it capable of automatically setting interest rates based on the current supply and demand dynamics, making it possible for borrowers to obtain loans while providing lenders with interest income. Compound’s governance is managed and made possible by COMP token hodlers, because COMP makes it possible to vote on different ideas/proposals to influence the development direction of the protocol.
