Decred

Decred was by a group of people, namely, Alex Yocom-Piatt, Dave Collins , David Hill , Jacob Yocom-Piatt , John Vernaleo , and Josh Rickmar , a team with a strong background in developing open-source software and cryptocurrencies. The creation of Decred was driven by the need for a more open and less manipulated decision-making process than what was seen in Bitcoin, particularly as concerns about Bitcoin's governance arose. One of the major events in Decred's history is its on-chain governance system, which allows stakeholders to vote on proposals for future development. Unlike many other projects, Decred has not raised funds to develop the project but instead started with a premise, which was transparently disclosed to the community.

Decred uses a hybrid consensus mechanism known as Proof of Activity (PoA), which combines Proof of Work (PoW) and Proof of Stake (PoS). This hybrid system allows for great security and resilience against attacks, as stakeholders participate in both mining and governance. Decred’s blockchain network is capable of processing around 10-20 transactions per second. Decred's block time is around 5 minutes. Additional relevant information about Decred includes having a block reduction event every 21 days reducing the block rewards by 1% each time.

Decred offers several notable features:
