Cosmos

Cosmos (ATOM) was founded by Jae Kwon and Ethan Buchman. The project was developed to address the lack of communication and interoperability between blockchain networks, which was inhibiting mass adoption and real-world utility. Cosmos's initial coin offering (ICO) was held in 2017 and raised approximately $17 million at an ICO price of around $0.10 per ATOM. A significant milestone was the launch of its mainnet in March 2019, marking its transition to a production environment facilitating real-world transactions and applications.

Cosmos uses the Tendermint consensus mechanism. This mechanism makes it possible for immediate transaction finality and a high throughput of up to 10,000 transactions per second with a block time of approximately 6-7 seconds. A core component of Cosmos is the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol, which makes interoperability possible between independent blockchains. Cosmos also provides a software development kit (SDK) that allows developers to build their own custom blockchains.

Cosmos offers several notable features:
