Flow

Flow was created by Dapper Labs, the team behind the popular NFT game CryptoKitties. The company was co-founded by Roham Gharegozlou, who serves as the CEO. Flow was developed to overcome the performance bottlenecks faced by existing blockchain networks evidenced by the congestion experienced during CryptoKitties' peak popularity. The network launched its mainnet in 2020 after various development phases. Flow raised funds through an ICO back in 2020 where it raised $18 million.

Flow uses a unique consensus mechanism called HotStuff. Flow can handle several thousand transactions per second due to its architecture that separates roles such as Collection, Execution, Verification, and Consensus nodes to increase efficiency. The average block time on Flow is approximately 5 seconds. Additionally, Flow introduces the concept of "Cadence", a resource-oriented programming language that simplifies the creation of smart contracts, providing developers with enhanced security and fault tolerance.
