GateToken

GateToken (GT) was developed by the team behind the Gate.io cryptocurrency exchange and is led by Lin Han, who also founded Gate.io.

GateToken (GT) launched in 2018 as a dedicated blockchain designed to improve Gate.io’s services and support safe, efficient decentralized digital asset storage.

GateChain is an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible 'next-gen' blockchain that uses a Proof of Stake (PoS) algorithm to achieve consensus between nodes and to secure its blockchain network. The GateChain network is capable of handling a relatively high throughput, compared to Proof of Stake chains, of 2750 transactions per second (TPS) and has an average block time of around 4 seconds. GateToken's are primarily used for transaction fees and staking on the GateChain blockchain.

GateToken offers several notable features:

• Token Burn: Gate.io regularly burn GateToken's and has to this date burn over 151 million GTs.
• Buybacks: The Gate.io exchange is using 15% of the profits from currency/leverage/contract transactions (and new main trading products in the future) to repurchase circulating GT from the secondary market.
