Livepeer

Livepeer was founded by Doug Petkanics and Eric Tang, both of whom have knowledagble backgrounds in technology and product development, with experience in building video infrastructure at companies like CNET and DAZN. Livepeer was developed to tackle the high costs and complexities associated with traditional video streaming solutions, which are largely dominated by big and centralized providers. Livepeer had gone through several funding rounds ranging from Pre-Seed at $0.944 in 2017, Seed at $3.00 in 2018, Series A in 2019, Series B in 2020 + an undisclosed round in 2022 raising an impressive $50.000.000.

Livepeer uses a consensus mechanism called Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS), DPoS makes it possible for hodlers of Livepeer tokens to help secure the network by locking up and staking their tokens and in return earn rewards. The network is capable of processing up to 5,000 transactions per second on its own blockchain infrastructure which is relatively high compared to many of the other chains. Livepeer operates with a block time of just 5 seconds which is relatively low making it possible for fast video streaming functionalities. In addition to video broadcasting, Livepeer has also created functionality that makes it possible for decentralized video transcoding, where volunteers can create something called an Orchestrator node which contributes their excess bandwidth and computing resources to transcode videos, supporting the entire ecosystem's efficiency and scalability and in return earn gateway fees and network rewards.

Livepeer offers several notable features:

• Cost-Effectiveness: By using decentralized resources, Livepeer significantly reduces the costs associated with streaming video content.
• Decentralized Transcoding: Livepeer has created decentralized video transcoding functionalities.
