Mina

Mina was founded back in 2017 by Evan Shapiro, and Izaak Meckler, after years of dedicated research and development, Mina successfully launched its mainnet on March 23, 2021. The launch marked a significant milestone, positioning Mina as the lightest blockchain in existence, using a groundbreaking recursive zero-knowledge proof technology to maintain a consistent block size of just 22KB. The project has had several fundraiser campaigns: A seed round in may 20218 raising $3.5 million at $0.07, A Series A round in April 2019 raising $15 million at $0.150, a Strategic round in October 2020 raising $11 million at $0.15, an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) where in April 2021 raising $18 million at $0.25, and finally 1 undisclosed round where it managed to raise $92 million, the project has raised a total of more than $140 million.

Mina uses a rather unique consensus mechanism known as Proof of Everything (PoE), this type of consensus mechanism reduces energy consumption and blockchain size making it possible for users to deploy a full node on their smartphones. One of Mina's key innovations is the use of zk-SNARKs, which makes it possible for the blockchain to retain its compact size while ensuring secure and private transactions.

Mina boasts several notable features:

• Typescript: Users can write and deploy smart contracts called zkApps in Typescript which is a superset for the very well-known language JavaScript, making adoption easier for many potential buidlers.
• Blockchain Size: Mina's Blockchain Size remains 22KB forever, other blockchains require giga bytes upon giga bytes as time goes by.
• Grants: The Mina project issues grants and has a "zkApps builder program" to encourage development on the Mina protocol.
• Scalability: Mina encourages off-chain computation while only verifying one proof on-chain.
• Decentralization: The design enables participation from a broad range of validators, promoting a truly decentralized network.
• Smart Contracts: Mina supports smart contracts through its zk-SNARK technology for secure and Zero Knowledge Applications (zkApps).
• Low Resource Requirements: The blockchain's small size means that almost anyone can run a node without high computational and storage costs.
• Privacy: zk-SNARKs provide privacy features for transactions, allowing users to keep their transaction details confidential.

Despite its innovative features, Mina faces several challenges:

• Competition: Mina competes with other smart contract platforms like Ethereum and newer technologies aiming for scalability.
• Adoption: Gaining traction among developers and users in a crowded marketplace is crucial for its success.
• Lack of Awareness: As a newer project, Mina may be less recognized compared to more established cryptocurrencies.
