Polygon

Polygon was co-founded by Jaynti Kanani, Sandeep Nailwal, Anurag Arjun, Antoni Martin, Bobbin Threadbare, Brendan Farmer, Daniel Lubarov, David Schwartz, Jordi Baylina, Mihailo Bjelic, and all of whom have robust backgrounds in technology and blockchain development. Initially known as Matic Network, the platform was developed to improve Ethereum's slow transaction times and high fees. A significant milestone for Polygon was its rebranding from Matic Network to Polygon in early 2021 to broaden its scope as a multi-chain system. The project also held an Initial Exchange Offering (IEO) back in April 2019 where it raised approximately $5 million with the MATIC token priced at around $0.00263.

Polygon employs a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism to validate transactions on its network, significantly reducing the time and cost associated with them. It can achieve up to 7,000-10,000 transactions per second on a single sidechain, with block times averaging around 2 seconds. Polygon is designed to handle transactions and its data on the Polygon chain and then broadcast all of the transaction data to Ethereum.

Polygon offers several notable features:

Despite its advantages, Polygon faces several challenges:

• Market Competition: Competitors like Optimism and Arbitrum present alternatives for Ethereum scaling solutions.
• Complex System: Building on a multi-chain system requires a nuanced understanding which may deter new developers.
• Dependencies: If Ethereum itself manages to solve the issues of scaling, congestion, and fees, there may not be a big need for the Matic chain.
• Regulation: As with most crypto projects regulation can significantly impact growth and adoption.
