Stellar

Stellar (XLM) was created by Jed McCaleb in 2014. Jed McCaleb is a notable figure known for also co-founding Ripple and developing the Mt. Gox bitcoin exchange. The Stellar project was developed to simplify cross-border money transfers and expand financial access to unbanked and underbanked populations. Notable historical events include a partnership with IBM in 2017 to facilitate cross-border transactions, and the Stellar Development Foundation's decision to burn 55 billion XLM tokens in 2019.

Stellar uses a unique consensus mechanism known as the Stellar Consensus Protocol (SCP). This protocol allows for rapid transaction validation, with Stellar capable of handling up to 1,100 transactions per second. The typical block time on the Stellar network is 3-5 seconds, making it highly efficient for a wide range of applications.
