KeepKey

KeepKey is non-custodial and partially open source. KeepKey uses offline key generation, PIN protection, recovery phrases and a secure bootloader to safeguard private keys. No major public hacks or criminal charges have been associated with KeepKey.

KeepKey was created by KeepKey, LLC, a company founded by Darin Stanchfield and later acquired by ShapeShift AG.

KeepKey, LLC, the company behind KeepKey, was based in Bothell, Washington, United States prior to acquisition. ShapeShift AG, the parent company, is headquartered in Denver, Colorado, United States.

KeepKey generates private keys offline and stores them within the device. KeepKey connects via USB to desktop wallets or ShapeShift’s platform, with transaction details displayed on the built-in OLED screen. Users review and approve transactions using the single physical confirmation button. Recovery phrases are generated during initial setup and can be used to restore access if the device is lost. A seed phrase ensures backup and portability across compatible wallets.
